More recently, however, research has arisen that challenges this common-sense notion. In 1988, psychologists Shelly Ta... more »

Is A Revolver-Shotgun the Ultimate Gun (Or Ultimate Joke)?
*Kyle Mizokami* *Security, * The details. *Key point: *These unique firearms hold real appeal and are here to stay. One of the most interesting trends in the world of handguns is the revolver than first not only handgun ammunition but also shotgun shells. The ability to shoot both high-powered handgun ammo above .40 caliber and small caliber shotgun shells makes these revolvers far more versatile than most. Although seemingly a new phenomenon, the development of handheld shotguns actually goes back to before the U.S. Civil War. The unusual nature of the revolver shotgun requires... more »
While Impeachment Mania Consumes Washington, a New North Korea Crisis Is Brewing.
*Daniel R. DePetris* *Security, * If President Trump doesn’t want to ring in the New Year with the first North Korean ICBM launch in over two years, then it would behoove him to look in the mirror and ask himself what his administration can do to prevent dialogue from crumbling. With every day that ticks off the calendar, the Trump administration is that much closer to North Korean leader Kim Jong-un’s ominous end-of-year deadline. North Korean officials and spokespeople are making increasingly strident statements about Washington‘s negotiating position and approach, all of wh... more »

Our exchange: *Pethokoukis: So what is the alternative for the 55 year old person who’s automated out of a job? Do we just say, “Well, guess what? For the symposium on David S. Schwartz, The Spirit of the Constitution: John Marshall and the 200-Year Odyssey of McCulloch v. Maryland (Oxford University Press, 2019). As such, he delineates not only the meaning the importance of the case in 1819, but also the use made of it over the next two centuries as it becomes a central myth and symbol of the very meaning of American constitutionalism.” I me... more »

OH: Outlawing Facts
The Ohio House of Representatives is ready to help students take a bold step forward into the post-fact world. Wednesday they passed (and when I say "they," I mean the solid vote-as-a-bloc GOP) HB 164. It's called the "Ohio Student Religious Liberties Act of 2019" and it sets out to accomplish a few things: It removes the limits on exercising expression of student religious beliefs. The old, struck-out language said the board of education could limit said expression to lunch period or other noninstructional time. That's the piddly stuff. Under the new language, "religious expressi... more »

As the deep state attacks Trump to rave media reviews, don't forget its dark side
[image: undefined] “Thank God for the deep state,” declared former acting CIA chief John McLaughlin recently while appearing on a panel at George Mason University. A year ago, the deep state was routinely reviled as a figment of paranoid right-wingers’ imagination. But much of the news media are now conferring the same sainthood on the deep state that was previously bestowed on special counsel Robert Mueller. A New York Times article last month gushed that “over the last three weeks, the deep state has emerged from the shadows in the form of real live government officials, past an... more »

You no longer have to worry about the what ifs." - Kate Lynch

Ice on your windscreen? Three home-made solutions
Like many of us, Miss D. and I were caught in the big Arctic freeze that blew through last week. It froze up our car windows, so that before we could drive in the mornings, we had to scrape them clear or use the car's own defrosting mechanisms to melt the ice. Frustrated, I did a bit of searching, and came up with these three recommendations for an easy, home-made solution to car window icing. I haven't tried them all yet, but I intend to.
