"The 2019 Black Friday Video Hall of Shame"

*"The 2019 Black Friday Video Hall of Shame"* by Daisy and Dagny "American shoppers continued to embarrass themselves in the eyes of the world during this year’s brawlshopping extravaganza. While smart shoppers stayed home and avoided the insanity by ordering gifts online, the melees were alive and well in malls and big-box stores across the country. As people battled it out for the best-priced bath towels, preppers should take a quick moment to ponder how these same folks would behave if they were hungry. AOC And Pramila Take On Mayo Pete And Status Quo Joe And Their Slick Conservative Talking Points

DownWithTyranny at DownWithTyranny! - 12 hours ago
If the Democratic primary is about picking the slickest, smoothest liar, there's no contest. Well... Status Quo Joe is certainly the *biggest* liar among Democrats, but Mayo Pete is the slickest and smoothest. That's what working as a McKinsey consultant teaches you. If you can't look someone straight in the eye and persuade them that up is down, the moon is made of green cheese and 2 + 2 = 5, you don't last as long as Mayo Pete did at McKinsey. Snow Day

A friend living in Tyumen, Siberia, Russian Federation, commented that we have more snow at the White Wolf Mine than they currently have in Siberia. It can't be a mine thing because you know that there are a lot of salt mines in Siberia. Maybe it's global Cooling? We have only ten years to live before the planet becomes a cinder if you listen to our Congressional brain trust (AOC). Ed Tech Giant Powerschool Keeps Eating the World

Peter Greene at CURMUDGUCATION - 12 hours ago
If you want to be a tech giant, you can try to grow organically within your company, or you can just look for companies that are already doing what you want to do, and buy them. Some are better than the strategy than others-- Facebook absorbed Instagram well enough, but Google seems to kill everything it touches. Back in the day, PowerSchool was a simple little program for taking care of classroom clerical work. Of the e-gradebooks I was forced to use in my career, it was the last and the most usable. Not everyone loves it (though I suspect in some cases it's the local district IT d... more »

Why Support for the Death Penalty Is Much Higher Among White Americans

Kevin O'Neal Cokley at The National Interest - 12 hours ago
*Kevin O'Neal Cokley* *Security, Americas* [image: Reuters] I study the impact that public policies like the death penalty have on African Americans, and I see a problem that isn’t often discussed in the media: the significant racial disparity in public opinion about the death penalty. Sentencing a person to die is the ultimate punishment. There is no coming back from the permanence of the death penalty. In the U.S., the death penalty is currently authorized by the federal government, the military and 29 states. The primary rationale for using the death penalty is deterrence. A... more »

Follow The Money

Paul Krugman writes that the Republican Party, officially known as the GOP -- The Grand Old Party -- is actually the COP -- The Corrupt Old Party: The G.O.P. is now a thoroughly corrupt party. Trump is a symptom, not the disease, and our democracy will remain under dire threat even if and when he’s gone. The usual explanation you hear for G.O.P. acquiescence in Trumpian malfeasance is that elected Republicans fear being defeated in a primary if they show any hint of wavering. And that’s certainly an important part of the story. Republicans haven’t forgotten what happened in 2014,... more »

Dishonest Adam Schiff tries to hide Mark Sandy testimony that clears Trump

Mark Sandy from OMB was questioned in secret as part of Adam Schiff's witch hunt. Oddly he wasn't questioned in the public hearings and his "secret" testimony wasn't released until well after Schiff's impeachment coup ended. Well perhaps it wasn't that odd given that Sandy clearly testified that the only reason he was given for the hold up in aid was that Trump was concerned about the fact that European countries weren't doing their fair share to help Ukraine. This is one more example of Schiff and the #FakeNews media deliberately distorting witness testimony prior to releasing the... more »

Saying ‘OK Boomer’ At Work Is Considered Age Discrimination – but Millennial Put-Downs are OK?

Note to Trump: Government Spending on Research Impacts the Economy and American Jobs

James Pethokoukis at The National Interest - 13 hours ago
*James Pethokoukis* *Security, Americas* [image: Reuters] A big deal. It’s not a natural impulse for politicians or activists to highlight trade-offs. Take cutting defense spending. Some Democratic presidential candidates envision a sizable reduction to the Pentagon’s budget if they’re elected. If that should happen, one possible program on the chopping block might be R&D investment. There is a lot of it, after all. Jupiter Is Amazing! Why This Planet Deserves a Closer Look.

In the last 10 years, but in the last five months in particular, the press has reported dire warnings that the Great Red Spot of Jupiter is dying. The Trump Administration's Climate Defiance Is a Joke for 1 Reason

Cara Daggett at The National Interest - 13 hours ago
*Cara Daggett* *Politics, Americas* How the low-carbon transition is disrupting fossil fuel politics. As the Trump administration works to weaken regulations on fossil fuel production and use, a larger struggle is playing out across multiple industries. However, I believe this approach is becoming less effective as climate change effects worsen and public demands for action intensify worldwide. As a scholar who focuses o... more »

The Geoscience Behind Discovering Lost Continents

Maria Seton, Joanne Whittaker, Simon Williams at The National Interest - 13 hours ago
*Maria Seton, Joanne Whittaker, Simon Williams* *History, Americas* [image: Reuters] What are lost continents, and why are we discovering so many? For most people, continents are Earth’s seven main large landmasses. But geoscientists have a different take on this. They look at the type of rock a feature is made of, rather than how much of its surface is above sea level. In the past few years, we’ve seen an increase in the discovery of lost continents. Most of these have been plateaus or mountains made of continental crust hidden from our view, below sea level. One example is Ze... more »
