Boris Johnson Saw The Election Results In Kentucky, Louisiana And Virginia And Decided To Keep As Far From Trump This Week As He Can
Trump is trying to make the British parliamentary elections about himself, which brings great joy to Labour and great heartburn to Boris Johnspm and his Conservatives. More than a few people say that Trump's toxicity cost the GOP the governors' mansions in beet-red Kentucky and Louisiana and both houses of the state legislature in Virginia. Virginia Republicans held their losses to a minimum by persuading Trump to stay on his side of the Potomac and *not* come into the state and campaign for GOP candidates the way Bernie and other Democrats were campaigning for legislative candida... more »
Chart: First year of adult-use cannabis sales in Massachusetts doesn’t disappoint
Massachusetts’ recreational marijuana industry recorded nearly $400 million in its first full year of sales, a strong initial sum given the dearth of retail stores throughout the state. Bolsonaro Government’s Advocacy of Authoritarianism Alarms Other Powers

Who "Massacred" Whom on that Saturday Night?: The William Ruckelshaus Legacy (and Why it Has So Little Impact Today)
William Ruckelshaus died last Wednesday at age 87. Although he was twice a successful Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency, he was best known for his role in the “Saturday Night Massacre” of October 20, 1973, when he was serving as Deputy Attorney General (and, for a fleetingly short period that night, empowered to exercise the authorities of the Attorney General). The lede of the *New York Times obituary* recounts--correctly, as we'll see--that Ruckelshaus “resigned” from his office that evening. 5 Common Questions About Why SciComm Writes

It's a nonprofit, answering *is* the job. The questions were rather specific to GMOs so I stuck to that, but of course I write about a lot more than agriculture while the rest of Science 2.0 writes about virtually every area of science. *'Educational Equity'— Fairness to Students or Bureaucracy?* Leftists have coined a new term to justify their federal meddling in public schools. In 1954, the U.S. Supreme Court rendered a unanimous decision in Brown v. Board of Education that the segregation of public schools was unconstitutional. It also just wasn’t right. While cultural norms dictate a great deal of accepted behavior and, sadly, the racial divide in America was still accepted until the mid-1950s, race-based policy never has been right under our constitutional law or moral standing. Simply, we’re either ... more »

*Could climate change become a security issue — and threaten democracy?* *Indeed it could. Warmists often say that democracy has to be limited to get the actions they want. It is warmists, not warming that is the threat to democracy* Action to address climate change has been left so late that any political response will likely become an international security issue — and could threaten democracy. With This Technology, The Navy May Want To Rethink Its Nuclear Submarines
*Sebastien Roblin* *Technology, * AIP subs are affordable and deadly. *Key point:* The Navy needs more vessels at an affordable cost. Nuclear-powered submarines have traditionally held a decisive edge in endurance, stealth and speed over cheaper diesel submarines. However, new Air Independent Propulsion (AIP) technology has significantly narrowed the performance gap on a new generation of submarines that cost a fraction of the price of a nuclear-powered boat. A conventional submarine’s diesel engine generates electricity which can be used to drive the propeller and power its sys... more »

Maternal Care Scandal in Britain’s NHS Reveals Human Costs of Socialised Medicine
I am really getting tired of the phrase 'socialized' medicine. All that applies to a dysfunctional management structure which as we know will trend to financial abuse in the face of a monopoly situation. The worst case of this is actually the USA healthcare system which has now at least one trillion dollar diverted to non medical costs. What the public needs is simple enough. It is a cooperative medical structure in which everyone contributes by direct monthly payment or by government subsidy if unable to earn through age or health. Why Vegetable Oils Are Carcinogenic
The take home is that our fat intake needs to be balanced between omega 3 and omega 6. That is difficult to do with processed foods in particular as they typically depend on vegetable oils. I also add in the reality that processed foods also add sugar to promote palatability as well. We have become well aware that the two types do need to be balanced. By the way the body strives for a omega 6 to omega 3 ratio of 1/1. Canola oil delivers 3/1 as likely the best, while olive oil comes in at 10/1 and we can be sure the rest are much worse. I should mention that the global food... more »
