Republicans, Blue Dogs And New Dems Don't Understand What Impeachment Is All About

DownWithTyranny at DownWithTyranny! - 16 hours ago
*Me The People by Nancy Ohanian* Most Americans seem to understand that the gravity of impeachment goes beyond mere partisan considerations. To put it simply, if Trump isn't held accountable for his criminal behavior, that lack of action will serve as a green light for future criminal behavior, not just by him but by any asshole who comes after him. The Republicans and the Republican wing of the Democratic Party do not get that, not at all. They are consumed with self-serving partisanship and can't see beyond their next primary or general election. This week Sarah Ferris and Heathe... more »

Biofuels Are A Negative For The Climate And We Can Thank Environmentalists For That

Hank Campbell at Science 2.0 blogs - 17 hours ago
When Al Gore was Vice-President in 1994, he forced the U.S. EPA to mandate ethanol in gasoline by by breaking the Senate tie in favor of environmentalists who had been pushing ethanol as 'sustainable biofuel' for decades. His vote forced gasoline manufacturers to include it despite science concerns it would drive up food prices and increase pollution. While biofuels were and are a viable field of study, the concern was that dumping money into corporate subsidies was going to hold progress back.(1) read more

This is all good business. I would like to see all the parties reach an aggreement regarding what is equitable and then arrange a gradual transition in which it is all done over a decade at the rate of ten percent per year. This approach avoids abrupt alterations and inefficient decision making. In the long term, the increase in European commitment is very important as it allows them to start the process of plausibly integrating Russia into the Agreement and supporting efforts against Islamic extremism. In that process, the active operational front can be easily identified an... more »

Yellowstone supervolcano: Is eruption imminent after 193 earthquakes in month?

Of course not. It is an active basaltic volcano that will overflow every million or so years. Or maybe not. What will happen, when it happens is that the heat horizon will approach the earth's surface causing overlying material breakup and ultimately be turned into ash to blow away down wind. The process itself could go on for thousands of years. After all that, the basalt lava lake will break out and produce a massive flow, just like Hawaii. In the meantime we do not have an active edge at all. The magma is still a long ways down and will likely demands thousands of years ... more »
